About JoburgCAN

Who we are

Joburg Community Action Network (JoburgCAN), is a division of OUTA, a Non-profit public benefit organisation.

Drawing upon the ethos and methodology of OUTA’s work, we strive for world class service delivery by those employed to serve the residents and businesses of Johannesburg. We do this by:

  • Knowing, understanding and applying our rights as residents and businesses of Joburg.
  • Combining the collective power of many communities, resident associations and business forums within the city. 
  • Challenging and engaging with those in authority, to work in the best interests of the residents and businesses of the city.
  • Provide citizen-based solutions that improve the city for all who live and work within the boundaries of the city.

The main objective(s) of you organisation are Municipal service delivery issues, Environmental, Challenging property valuations, rates and service fees, we do this through teams of:

  • A full-time employed operational & management team.
  • With access to experts and specialists in their field. 
  • An Affiliated Associations Members Council.
  • Volunteer Committees focused on specific areas such as:
    • Infrastructure & Environment
    • Roads & Transport
    • Water
    • Finance
    • Safety & Security

A prosperous City with an organised, engaged and empowered civil society that ensures responsible use of rates and tax revenues by the City in order to provide sustainable services to its customers.

Mission

Using clear and effective methodologies and project management processes, through multi-disciplined high performance teams, JoburgCAN will be a trusted vehicle for advocacy and positive change by:

  • Challenging and taking action against maladministration and corruption and where possible, holding those personally responsible to account for their conduct and actions.
  • Organise and activate active citizenry within the City.
  • Challenging policy and the regulatory environment as and when deemed as irrational, unfit or ineffective for their intended purpose.
  • Working with communities and authorities in improving administration and service delivery within the City.
